Bessie's Sweet Retreat, owned and operated by Kenny Morgan, is a local food destination
specializing in homestyle sandwiches, smash burgers, and over 30 delicious ice cream and
milkshake flavors. The Bessie’s concept is a spin off from the family grocery and deli which
operated from 1960-2003 in Mandeville. Bessie Creel, grandmother and namesake, was a
lifelong resident of the Richardson community and represents hospitality, sense of community
and good food. Bessie had always dreamed of having a restaurant in Franklinton and so in
spirit, now she now does. Kenny, an LSU graduate, has 35 years of small business experience, a
decade in the field of quality control and a passion for delivering the highest-quality sandwiches
and sweet treats. Bessie's Sweet Retreat has become a favorite gathering place enjoyed by kids
and adults of all ages. Known for exceptional flavor, freshness, cleanliness, and product
quality—as well as the largest ice cream selection in the area—Bessie's Sweet Retreat is
committed to creating an atmosphere where the community can come together to enjoy great
food, while also fostering a positive work environment that encourages growth, development,
and a strong sense of pride and ownership among its team members.
